Over the course of the past six years, we've had the great pleasure and honor to start something special with the support of our friends, making craft accessories in our home state of Oregon, USA.  We gave the Irish name to our brand after our Irish terrier, SEAMUS, and as a nod toward SEAMUS MACDUFF, the infamous recluse in Mr. Michael Murphy's Golf in the Kingdom.  SEAMUS GOLF started with wool sourced from our local mill, Pendleton, and quickly incorporated several more in Scotland as customers routinely inquired about having their very own familial tartan that wasn't currently available. Around three years ago, business ramped up, and we never thought of exploring more tartans or tweeds as we'd already amassed nearly four hundred fabrics from mills located from Border Country / Southern Scotland all the way to the Outer Hebrides and their renowned Harris Tweed.

Around the same time, we met a golfer at the Streamsong Invitational named Frank Casey Jr., who told us he was a long-time supporter of our brand while showing us his tartan cover during check-in.  This brief interaction began Mr. Casey Jr.'s annual invitation to his family's resort in Downings, Ireland: the Rosapenna Golf Resort, home to one of only three Old Tom Morris routings in all of Ireland.

Each year, whether at Streamsong, or at the PGA Show, Frank would make this kind invitation and further it with expressing how we needed to see the craft perfected in the capital of County Donegal, where some of the world's finest tweeds are woven and some of the most culturally rich products are made. Earlier this year we took Mr. Casey Jr.'s up on his offer, and Megan and I booked our trip to the Isle of Eire.

An unforgettable journey, we were lucky enough to bring some select tweeds back from the homeland, which are now available in our store in very limited quantities. These tweeds were hand-picked by myself and Megan in small-scale mills throughout County Donegal - pronounced DUN-EE-GAWL - where we encountered operations as small as father-son weavers working out of their family homestead.

We will be rolling out some of our amazing finds over the next couple weeks alongside accounts of our adventures in Donegal, so make sure to keep checking back!

  • Wonderful story. Also my father’s homeland, Ireland is a place we love to visit, and Donegal is truly beautiful. We stayed there last fall and played the underrated Narin & Portnoo course with friendly members. Judging by your photo, I can say our weather that day was more cooperative. Looking forward to more posts on your visit.
