The Maggie // Maggie Hathaway

On June 13th, we hosted ‘The Maggie’, a benefit to learn about and support the planned Gil Hanse designed and USGA / LACC / SCGA supported renovation project for the Maggie Hathaway Par 3 course in Los Angeles. First opened in 1962, the Los Angeles County-owned facility was renamed Maggie Hathaway in 1997 in honor of the activist, blues singer, actress and golfer who helped end the discriminatory practice of segregation at County golf courses.
We at Seamus Golf believe in the importance of Golf’s bunny slopes:, it is where the game is learned and shared amongst the widest range of individuals. In the case of Maggie Hathaway, the course is located in an under-resourced community and as such presents the opportunity to become a case study for investing with intent to break barriers in our local community golf grounds. This is the only way to ensure the game is passed on to a greater subset of generations, and simultaneously improve community well-being through golf.
At this time, The USGA, LACC, Philanthropist Steve Balmer and the Kroenke Family Foundation have each committed $1 million lead donations, with the SCGA providing an initial $500k and 1 to 1 match for up to another $500k.  These funds are specifically designated to drive greater access and opportunity for underrepresented youth in the community and to diversify participation at the grassroots level. The ‘FORE Youth: 2023 U.S. Open Community Legacy Campaign’ was developed as a visionary way to leave a community impact as part of the U.S. Open held at The Los Angeles Country Club and is focusing on a community legacy that will rejuvenate Maggie.
In this kickoff event we celebrated the U.S. Open Community legacy at Maggie Hathaway Par 3 course. If you weren't able to join us it isn't too late to show your support. With each donation in excess of $50 placed on the SCGA website linked below, we will be providing a Seamus Golf designed t-shirt commemorating The Maggie.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about this special project, and supporting the future of golf.
